    文章:What is Rich?
    Summary:
The Reb had come back from the hospital for 3 years. He was thinner and weaker. He even walked with a walker. There were health care worker who came to the Reb’s house to aid him. This day, Mitch came to visit him as usual, but now he and the Reb had became good friends. Mitch found that the Reb’s house did not change so much from the day he visit the Reb’s first time, the same old furniture and old television. Therefore, he wrote about Albert Lewis’s childhood.
The Reb’s family was poor. When he was a child, he always wore his cousin’s old clothes and ate the bread with discount for meal. Maybe that’s why he was very frugal and did not judge the life by what he owned now. The Reb said “I had what I need, what bother chasing more?” He didn’t care about the price and the quality of the products, and he only thought about they are useful or not. The Reb is really satisfied with his life.

    Afterthoughts:
    What is rich?
I think most people might think of having lots of money. Maybe we all used to envy the life of the rich .But, having lots of wealth doesn’t mean you would be happy. Instead of complaining about the poverty ,the most important thing is being content with what you have.
Once we are satisfied with everything we have, our life would be much happier.

    Questions:
What is Rich to the Reb?
Do you think Reb is rich or not ? Why?
    (Try to explain it.)

    文章: Church(from p132)
    Summary:
After several invitations by Henry, Mitch went to the church and listen to Henry’s sermon. Henry talked about that he was depressed because of having no money to fix the hole in the ceiling. But he soon realized that what God cares is about us and about what’s in our heart.

Henry was sent in Detroit in 1992. His work is to build a new Pilgrim ministry. Because of his devotion to study and easy connection to people, Henry was elevated to a pastor.
Even when Henry didn’t been paid for the salary, he refused the local drug dealers. He asked God for guidance and did whatever he could to keep his church and family afloat.

    cleric 教士

    deacon 助祭

I think Henry regrets what he has done before; therefore, he decides to correct his error. No matter how hard the life is, he would thank what God blesses him.
Even if Henry is in the adversity now, he would not do something illegal.
Instead, he would pray for God’s help. He has once said: ”God cares about you, and what’s in your heart. ”

    Question:
    1. What’s the difference between Henry and Rebbi’s sermon?

    2. Henry used to steal or rob other’s thing when he is poor .Now, Henry deeply believes in God, what is his difference between now and before?

    The End of Summer
Summary: Reb has a cancer but he didn’t tell Mitch.
    Afterthought: Reb 對病情隻字未提,是一種體貼,不希望Mitch擔心,或許身為有信仰的人,自然而然會充滿對神的愛對人的愛吧。

    Church

    Question
    Q:為何Mitch要籌辦專為遊民的慈善機構?
    A:也許是和Reb相處之後,也被他的悲憫之心感染,決定為他們做點什麼。
